Cinco De Mayo | Paloma Inspired Drink

05/01/16

PALOMA || SUNDAY COMFY

Cinco De Mayo is this week and I wanted to upload a new (to me) drink that I have fallen in love with! It is a take on the classic Paloma, a tequila-based drink with grapefruit juice.  My take on the drink is a little different, it has some carbonation and a whole lot of goodness. I do not like grapefruit, I have tried it several times in several variations…and I just can’t. I even have a video of me on instagram trying it, and it is VERY apparent that I do not like it. I was very surprised when I tried this drink and the grapefruit flavor wasn’t incredibly strong so I didn’t mind it one bit! I will be the first to admit that I am a beer and margarita girl, but when my dad showed me this drink it became a drink that I now consider a staple. THAT’S A BIG DEAL.

You will need:
Paloma || Sunday Comfy

I filled a glass with ice, preferably crushed or Sonic’s ice (the best).  I added 2 oz. of a white/blanco tequila. Then poured in 1 oz. of lime juice Then I fill to the top with grapefruit soda-I used Jarritos Mexican Soda-Grapefruit.

2 oz. Blanco/White Tequila

1 oz. Lime Juice

Top with Grapefruit Soda

If you try it out, let me know!

What do you do on Cinco De Mayo?

Styled Shoot | Cena Jordan

04/24/16

A few months ago I received an amazing opportunity to help photograph some amazing hair and florals! Cena, is the sweetest girl I know! She is such a #bossbitch and is an amazing hair stylist, like real good. Cena was doing a shoot to update her website and I thought I would showcase a few here 🙂  Layers of Lovely provided the florals for the shoot and she is killing the game lately, I so wish I would’ve found her sooner!

San Francisco Travel Diary

04/03/16

san francisco

Matthew and I have been married for one year on March 8th, to celebrate we took a quick weekend trip to San Francisco. Unfortunately, it rained 80% of the time we were there so we didn’t get to do all of the things we wanted to do, take all the pictures I had wanted to take for this here blog, and go on all the excursions we had planned. We made the best of it, I am not the type to dwell on the weather, I can’t control it. We just chose to drink and eat our sorrows away.

Here are some of my suggestions, Tony’s Pizza in Washington Square Park. We drank a “margarita-inspired ” drink called the Noisy Boy, it was a cucumber style margarita with a little kick! So good! It also had an almond salt rim.  I know it sounds different and we would have never ordered it if we would’ve just read the ingredients, we saw someone drinking it and we HAD to try it.

We went to the Park Tavern, also in Washington Square Park; it has a rustic/hipster vibe. I could have definitely gone back there again, and again. We had an amazing waiter who gave us some free champagne for our anniversary, any place that gives me free alcohol is my kind of place. The avocado toast was amazing, my drink recommendation is the Anchor Steam Beer Mango Wheat.

Lastly, we went on a brewery tour at Anchor Brewery.  I learned a lot about the making of beer, but the best part was trying all the different types of beer; Matthew was in heaven. We spent the day hanging out at the brewery, and then walking the streets of San Francisco on our only rain-free afternoon.

Quick Sugar Cookie Recipe

03/27/16

I have a sweet tooth, but only for a few particular things; sugar or snickerdoodle cookies, yellow cake with vanilla frosting, and sour candy.  My BIG problem is if they are in the house I will eat them, like all of them…in one sitting. I was perusing on Pinterest and found some fun recipes to try, I tweaked one of them and created the perfect portion size cookie. It is quick, easy, and pretty delicious!

sugar cookie

Quick Microwavable Sugar Cookie:

3 tablespoons of flour

2 tablespoons of sugar

1 teaspoon brown sugar

1 tablespoon of whisked egg

1 tablespoon of melted butter

dash of salt

dash of vanilla (more like a drop!)

In a small bowl melt butter, add in vanilla, whisked egg, salt, and sugars. Then mix in flour and form a soft dough, place on a microwave-safe plate that has been sprayed with nonstick cooking spray. Place in microwave and cook for 45-50 seconds depending on microwave.

If you want to get REAL crazy add some store-bought frosting on top, and add some sprinkles. BOOM! Sugar cookie in less than 5 minutes, and you can’t overindulge because there is only one!

Do you  make any quick, one-serving recipes?

Last Minute Easter Basket for Him!

03/22/16

Surprise! A post during the week, thank goodness for Spring Break.

Over the weekend, I was walking through Trader Joe’s thinking “wow, I look like I have my life together! I am wearing a trendy vest, lululemon pants, and my produce to junk food ratio is like 5:1…that’s a huge deal.”  What I was really thinking about is, how much I want a doughnut and that I can’t believe I just spent $40 at Bath & Body Works when I have a huge drawer of candles at home..BUT THEY HAD A SALE!

At this moment, between the freeze dried strawberries and the green tea mochi, my phone reminded me that one year ago today I was preparing for Matthew’s Easter basket…and it hit me, I have not done a damn thing for Easter this year. I was so preoccupied with the fact that I NEEDED Spring Break that I totally forgot that Easter was next weekend! I used this as an excuse to go to Target, because Target is everything.

I picked up a few things that Matthew has been needing/wanting to create the perfect “Easter Basket for him.”

When I was aimlessly walking down all the aisles of Target, as every girl does, I kept in mind that I wanted to keep the cost on the lower side. Matthew’s birthday is next month so I didn’t want to go too crazy on the basket.

Firstly, Red Bull is Matthew’s love language so I couldn’t leave that one out! He is also a baseball coach so I couldn’t go wrong with getting him another  Gatorade water bottle. Since he is a baseball coach, his car can get very messy/dusty-so I picked up some Armor All wipes and a Glade air freshener. Some of his hobbies include drawing, working out, and golfing; so he definitely needed Sharpies, Men’s Fitness Magazine, Callaway Golf Tees, and Yurbuds Headphones (there is a cartwheel for these!) Lastly, the candy, his favorite gum is Big League Chew and his favorite candy is anything sour so I got him Sour Patch Jelly Beans.

What do you put in your Easter Basket? Do you include gifts in your Easter Basket, or just candy?

Sunday Snaps v.1

03/20/16

I love all the “hats” I wear, between being a teacher, a wife, a margarita consumer, and a blogger; I am also a photographer. Once in awhile I want to use this platform to showcase some of my favorite shoots, it will be called “Sunday Snaps.”

This was a senior shoot I did a few weeks ago, she is a senior about to graduate and go on to do AMAZING things! I’ve known her for quite a few years now and it is so crazy to see how much she has grown up, I am so excited for her future!

Floral Workshop | Layers of Lovely

03/13/16

A43A9258

On Sunday, February 28th, I had the AWESOME opportunity to photograph Catherine, from Layers of Lovely, host a floral workshop. I have attended photography workshops in the past, but I have never attended a floral workshop-I learned so much and I wasn’t even “attending” I was just shooting the damn thang. The workshops would be a wonderful addition to either a bridal shower, or the start of a bachelorette party. Imagine drinking mimosas, and playing with pretty floral arrangements before all the debauchery  starts! I wished I could’ve done the class as part of mine, my girlfriends would have loved it! I will warn you-you may get scratched by some thorns, as well as think you are the next big thing in wedding florals…Catherine made it seem so effortless. She is truly amazing. Catherine is hosting another workshop on April 12th, from 6-8pm. The class is $150 and all materials and flowers are included, it is truly worth every penny (if not much more!!)

a letter to my husband

03/08/16

Dear Husband,

Today we have been married one whole year, ONE WHOLE YEAR! I am not sure where the time went, but damn it went fast.  Sometimes I wonder if we let too many days slip away without really rejoicing in the fact that we were able to live that day, we were able to go to sleep that night together, we were able to eat dinner and watch “Friends” before bed, we are able to complain about our days as the other silently listens, and we are able to fight over who loves each other more.. we are so lucky. I say we take more time to sit in the silence and relish in all of the greatness we get to enjoy together, I promise I won’t get mad at you for breathing too loud ; )  Today, we have been married a whole year. I would, without a doubt, say it was the best year of my life. We were able to travel and see new places together, we made our first big purchase as a couple, and we laughed until our bellies hurt…we are so lucky.  I can’t wait to see what the future has for us and our (one day) growing family.  Some people never find their person, some people never find the one that they cry over (while writing a blog post) because their love is so strong and so awesome…we are so DAMN lucky.  I don’t know how I found you, but you walked in my life when I needed you most-you saved me and I didn’t even know it…I am so lucky.  Thank you for letting me have the last sour patch kid, the last red bull, the last of anything- you love me that much and it means the world to me.  I will never be able to put into words how much you mean to me, or how much you have impacted me; but you are my lobster. my person. my everything. Here is to the next billion years together.

Love, Your Wife. (never gets old)

hello!

03/06/16

firstpost

hello. mind. blown.

I cannot believe it is live. Matthew (my husband) and I have been talking about starting blogs for awhile. so here we are!

A little bit about this here blog, Sunday Comfy is going to be my place to tell you about anything and everything that my sour-patch kid loving heart desires. I guess you would categorize it as a “lifestyle” blog (aka the umbrella of all blogs, basically means I can talk about anything and it “fits” ) I plan to blog about our weekend adventures, recipes, DIY’s, and home decor! My photography sessions will make their appearances, as well!

On any given sunday you will find us hanging out in bed with bogey at our feet (gasp! you let your dog in your bed!!) yes, yes we do. we don’t have children yet, bogey is our child; and we are a snuggling family.  we hang out in bed, and most of the time we get into a tickle war before we end up telling each other “your breath stank.” we keep it real.
Our bed is my favorite, we could use a new mattress–butttt it’s still comfy. I love the idea of a bright bedroom, and light sheets/comforters. I love the feeling of being curled up in bed with this big, puffy comforter around you and pillows galore. That is how I picture my blog…a big, comfy bed (with a cold pillow, preferably).
